The lake in the Himalayan district is 2 km southwest of the district headquarters Jomsom. The lake, which is only one kilometer away from Thini village, has always been considered attractive for tourists.
To the north of Dhumba Lake is Nilgiri Himal, to the west is Kuchpaterang Gumba and to the east is the famous Gharpajhong fort.

According to the locals, Gharpajhong village, which is also the district headquarters, has been named after this fort.

The lake also has an archeological connection with the nearby Kuchpaterang Gumba. According to local experts, people have been worshiping in the monastery since ancient times using the pure water of this lake.

During the winter, the surface water of the lake freezes, and the area around the lake is covered with snow. Abha Sherchan, a local who brought Dhumba Lake to his friends, said that it is very enjoyable for tourists to walk around the lake when the surface is frozen.

According to Praja Gurung, a local of Jomsom, silver carb, grass carb, and some fish species are also found in the lake. The fish are released by the locals to enhance the religious beliefs and beauty of the lake.

Gurung said that no one could kill the fish and that arrangements have been made to feed the fish to the fish prescribed by the lake conservation committee. These fish have also become a tourist attraction in the lake.
